Clinic Services and Policies
The Lopez Island Medical Clinic specializes in family medicine and preventive health care. Services are provided by Bob Wilson, M.D., who is Board certified in Family Practice Medicine, and Christine Burnell, ARNP, a Board certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Together with an all R.N. staff, our medical practitioners provide health, wellness, injury, illness, and acute care. The vast majority of medical needs of both residents and visitors can be met here on the island.
Two of our most important goals are to improve the health of those who are at risk for disease or disability and to maintain the health of those with low or no health risks. We work as partners with our patients to promote the best health possible.
WE PROMISE TO
We perform well care, school and camp physicals, as well as adult and women’s gynecological health exams. Newborn exams, including immunizations, also are provided. Special physicals include commercial drivers and FAA flight physicals.
Lopez Clinic provides screening and diagnostic exams. These include sigmoidoscope exams, lesion biopsy and excision, cryotherapy, respiratory therapy, and pulmonary function tests. Electrocardiograms, 24-hour Holter monitoring, and exercise stress treadmills also are available.
Blood draws and basic lab tests are performed at the Clinic. We work closely with the Island Hospital Lab to complete more extensive tests. Specimens are sent out daily by courier.
Laceration repair, wound management, and fracture care are provided. With recent facility upgrades, including Life Pak 12 and AED defibrillators, we administer state-of-the-art critical care. We work closely with local paramedics and air ambulance to provide rapid access to mainland hospitals. A helipad is located adjacent to the Clinic.
We are able to take and develop most x-rays on site and when appropriate, consult with Island Hospital radiologists. Bone density scans are available.
Island Hospital Physical Therapy has an office at the Clinic and offers a wide range of PT services.
Home Health Nursing
The Clinic works with Island Hospital Home Health Department to provide management of home care.
Office visits are by appointment by calling 468- 2245 during office hours. When scheduling appointments, our staff will ask you questions to determine the complexity of your problems and the appropriate amount of time needed for your visit. We make every attempt to stay on schedule, but emergencies do occur, and delays can develop. If time is critical to you, and there are delays, please notify the receptionist so your appointment can be rescheduled. We request that new patients arrive 15 minutes prior to the appointment to complete patient registration.
If you must cancel an appointment, please call us as far in advance as possible at 468-2245.
Patient Confidentiality, HIPAA, and Medical Records
The Clinic adheres to HIPAA regulations and requires absolute confidentiality from our staff regarding patient issues. We do not disclose your records to others unless you request and authorize it in writing or unless the law requires and compels us to do so.
Prescription Drug Refills
We work closely with Lopez Island Pharmacy and mainland pharmacies to promote timely refills. We require 24- to 72-hour notice for refills.
The Clinic is required to collect co-payments at the time of service. We request that patients are informed about their insurance policies. We have SHIBA volunteers who can assist with researching insurance options and a certified Assister to help patients navigate the Washington State Health Benefits Exchange.
